Arrived

We picked up our puppies last night from the Virgin Blue Freight Terminal at Sydney Airport. They had been through a lot - a pick up from Stratford Victoria, a long drive into Melbourne Airport and then some time hanging around with the ladies at JetPets. They were loaded onto a plane and took off at about 17:45 - landing in Sydney at around 19:00.

We took possession of Casper and Brutus at about 19:30.

They were/are amazing. Initially they were very, very quiet and it took about 10 minutes to get even the smallest whimper out of them. By the end of the trip home they were poking their little heads over the edge of the box we had put them in and were starting to make puppy type noises.

The first night was fun - within 5 minutes of getting home they had both done a wee and poo on the floor. They initally couldn't get any sort of traction on the floors but figured it out quite quickly. They were very curious about us and the house and ran around quite enthusiastically. They ate some food and we quickly learned they had a bit of a fondness for laying on their backs and getting a belly rub. Sometimes they made noise but they were mostly silent.

Putting them to bed was a bit sad - they whimpered when we closed the laundry door and continued to whimper for a quite a while. They were even scratching at the closed door :-(

When we woke up they were already awake - and still whimpering. I let them out and they promptly sprayed wee and poo all over the place. Again. "Want to lock us up? Take that!"

I ended up coming home from work at about midday - one of had a bit (or maybe more than that) of blood in his poo - so it was off to the vet for a checkup. He wasn't overly concerned and thinks it was probably worms.

So it was back home for an afternoon of working and playing in alternate measures. The pups had their first free run in the backyard and I discovered we had sealed the gaps under the fences while putting in the gardens many years ago. There's a few small spots but none that are insurmountable.

The kids love Casper and Brutus. LGR is a bit standoffish but Hayz is all over them. Like a rash. LGR likes to walk with them and play with them - but not actually touch them. Hayz can't do anything without touching them and has even gone as far as hand feeding them dinner.

I'm glad we have two new 'babies' in our family.
